This week’s tool tip: Boomerang your Gmail!

Boomerang-for-Gmail1I was raised on Outlook. Old school email. Then the age of mobile and the Cloud arrived, and Gmail landed. I was able to use Gmail with my Outlook email accounts, and easily access everything on my cell phone. Sounds great, but…. I prefer the layout and ease of use with Outlook over Gmail when accessed via my PC.  I spend more time reviewing email from mobile device now, so the email retrieval and response program was getting a bit messy for me. I started ‘flagging’ all the important items, thinking I would give them priority when I next visited my emails.

This was great for about a week, until everything started “needing my attention” and the flags were as prevalent as the regular inbox items. I was forgetting which were important, who I needed to follow up with, and spending just as much time re-reading the same emails! Then I found Boomerang.

Boomerang makes scheduling emails and reminders a piece of cake for Gmail users. This free tool “boomerangs” messages back into your inbox at a time of your choosing – so you can clear out those awkward emails where you’re waiting on the other person to reply.

Some of the great features that have helped me better organize my  email:

Send an email later

With Boomerang, you can write an email now and schedule it to be sent automatically at the perfect time. Just write the message as you normally would, then click the Send Later button.

The best follow up reminders

Want a cleaner inbox, but don’t want to lose track of important messages? Use Boomerang to take messages out of your inbox until you actually need them.

Remind you if you don’t hear back

There are times you need to make sure you follow up within a specific time frame after sending a message. You can select to only be reminded if nobody replies, or regardless
